While my parents are Dutch, I was born in Botswana where I spent the first four years of my life, and was subsequently raised in England. During my youth, I was lucky to travel substantially with my family, which instilled a travel bug in me. Our travels led me to places in Asia, North America, Europe, and many parts of Africa. I especially fell in love with Africa, its variety in cultures, people and countrysides, and above all its wildlife.

During these travels, I noticed the diversity in living standards, recognizing how people's lives and environments are intertwined: social structures and associated hardships impacted by ever changing environments. Consequently, these observations provided me with a great education, and a diverse background of my outlook on life. Issues of poverty and conservation became very important to me; what a better way than photographs is there to illustrate how people and animals struggle to survive in their environments?
At a very early age, I developed a passion for photography, which I inherited from my father and older brother. I received my first camera, a Kodak Instamatic 56X, at the age of seven, with which I took my first hesitant steps towards portraying my environment and its people. It was not until 2003, when I could devote more time to photography, and purchased by first SLR camera. Recently, I expanded into digital imaging and added a digital SLR, which I found extremely advantageous on my recent safari visit to Kenya.
Currently, I am studying for a BA in Photography at Nottingham Trent University, where I am constantly learning new techniques, art appreciation, printing, and other technical skills including digital imaging such as Photoshop. These studies have introduced me to different styles of photography, which provide me with new and unexpected inspirations. In addition to wildlife and landscape photography, I have developed an increasing interest in portraiture, and abstract styles of art, that can be applied in the worlds of fashion and advertising.

Initially, I did commissioned work for a variety of social functions such as weddings. I have recently completed a project for an international company which involved taking images of their new range of products for their website. More recently I have completed a shoot for a lingerie company for their new catalogue. Several of the images shown in my online galleries are displayed in a number of establishments around the country, and I have received numerous requests for prints. In addition, I am able to accommodate specific requests from customers.
Several of my photographs have been included in BBC online features showing my portrayal of my local area. I intend to include these in my forthcoming exhibition later this year, of which dates and venues will be posted soon.
